In November 2002, the Calgary Board of Education Trustees approved the formation of an International Bureau that would centralize international programs and services. The function of the International Bureau is to:
- Attract international students to study in public schools with the Calgary Board of Education
- Ensure marketing efforts achieve a diversified international student population
- Ensure international students are well supported while studying in Calgary
- Support international students in getting involved in extracurricular activities and clubs
- Provide support to the parents of international students so that they will feel confident in the care, guidance and educational opportunities provided to their children
- Assist CBE schools and International Coordinators as they provide emotional and academic support to international students
- Provide well-screened and carefully-selected homestay families to provide accommodation to international students
- Facilitate international opportunities for CBE students through exchange and the International Certificate
- Provide international opportunities for CBE staff through the annual international education tour
- Enable CBE teachers to provide globalized learning opportunities in their classrooms through Global Connect
- Facilitate professional development opportunities for CBE educators to teach abroad
- Provide leadership and teacher training opportunities to educators from abroad.
